How To Succeed In Everything

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Hi there. Here we go… first post.

I was reading a magazine article the other day by a guy named Mike Zimmerman that was talking about, in particular, why men fail. Why so many men (and women, I would add) just don’t ever find success. His answer was simple: cynicism.

This idea resonated with me in a big way. So much so, in fact, that I went about creating this blog shortly after finishing the article.

Anyway, like I said, it really struck me, this idea of cynicism being a block for success. I mean, I’ve experienced some good successes in my life, but it made me wonder how much of my outlook, my every day way of being, is painted black with cynicism and how much success I have effectively thwarted by wielding that brush.

Which brings me to what I am doing here, writing this right now. I’m not sure exactly how this blog will evolve over time, but what I do know is I want to use it to assist me in my evolution as a successful human being. To help me be present in what I do and how I do it. To remind me that I am accountable to myself and responsible for the successes in my life.

So, how do I propose to accomplish such a lofty goal as being successful in whatever I choose to do? Well, Mr. Zimmerman has what I believe is the answer. He says:

“Whatever you do, elite performance (which is the delivery vehicle for success) requires a sincere belief—in the cause, of course, but also in your own ability and the very system in which your performance happens. Cynicism cannot exist in the same space as sincere belief.”

Boom!

If  success requires sincere belief, and cynicism can’t exist in the same space as sincere belief, then the answer to how to succeed in everything is simple: Eradicate cynicism, create success.

All it takes is a sincere belief that I can be successful in every single thing I do. And I’ll tell you this right now… I believe, baby. Sincerely.
